This pair of beverage bottles is attributed to Fentimans Ltd. Direct Supply Co. The bottles are constructed from salt-glazed stoneware with a two-tone finish, featuring a dark brown glazed shoulder and neck over a buff-coloured cylindrical body. Each bottle displays a central circular transfer-printed logo containing the head of a German Shepherd, the Fentimans family dog known as Fearless. The text within the logo border reads FENTIMAN’S DIRECT SUPPLY CO. LTD. Below the logo, the body text states THE CONTENT OF THIS BOTTLE IS A BREWED BOTANIC BEVERAGE CONTAINING YEAST. KEEP THE STOPPER TIGHT, STORE IN A COOL PLACE. POUR OUT GENTLY AND DO NOT SHAKE. The shoulders feature a printed warning stating TO BUY, TO SELL OR MAKE USE OF THIS BOTTLE IS ILLEGAL. PLEASE RETURN WHEN EMPTY. One bottle is printed with the date 1936 and the other with 1938. Both bottles are fitted with ceramic screw-top stoppers; one stopper features a transfer print reading FENTIMANS DIRECT SUPPLY GINGER BEER, while the second stopper is plain glazed stoneware.
