This lot features two vintage microscopes and a selection of laboratory accessories. The primary instrument is a monocular microscope by Hearson, London, constructed with a black-enamelled horseshoe-style cast metal base and limb with a brass body tube. The body tube is engraved with the maker’s mark HEARSON / LONDON. / № 413. The microscope is equipped with a triple-lens rotating nosepiece housing three brass-cased objective lenses, coarse and fine adjustment knobs, and a rectangular stage with specimen clips. Below the stage is a substage assembly with a condenser and iris diaphragm. This instrument is housed in its original fitted mahogany transit case with a brass carry handle, internal wooden blocks, and felt padding.
The secondary instrument is an S.E.L. No. 2 Student Microscope, manufactured by Signalling Equipment Ltd., England. It features a black crinkle-finish frame and a chrome-plated draw tube. It is contained within its original illustrated cardboard box, which indicates a magnification of 70X.
The lot also includes an assortment of accessories and ephemera, comprising multiple boxes of Merit specimen slides for student’s microscopes, red boxes of 1/2 oz. microscopic glass squares (No. 1 cover slips), two small white component boxes, and a circular black aperture disk.
