This assortment of vintage street signage is historically associated with the Elswick and West End districts of Newcastle upon Tyne. The collection features two distinct styles of manufacture common to 20th-century British municipal signage. Three of the signs are constructed from cast metal, likely iron or aluminium, featuring raised relief block lettering with rounded terminals and integrated mounting apertures. These are inscribed WYLAM STREET, MONA STREET, and POPLAR STREET. The fourth and largest sign is a rectangular flat metal example for NORMANTON TERRACE, featuring black sans-serif lettering on a white background with a thin black border, finished in a traditional vitreous enamel or heavy paint. All signs display the characteristic typography and construction methods of mid-century United Kingdom road and terrace markers.
