Brown, Rev. John (1722-1787). Brown’s Self-Interpreting Family Bible containing the Old and New Testaments; to which are annexed an extensive introduction; marginal references and illustrations; an exact summary of the several books; a paraphrase on the most obscure or important parts; explanatory notes, evangelical reflections, &c., &c. London: John G. Murdoch, 41, Castle Street, Holborn, undated [c. 1880]. Large folio. Bound in heavy dark morocco-grain textured cloth or leather over thick boards, featuring a deep blind-embossed decorative border and a central star-shaped inset with the title HOLY BIBLE. The volume is further embellished with four highly ornate, die-cut gilt brass corner guards and two matching hinged decorative clasps. Internally, the work features a vibrant chromolithographed presentation page with an IHS monogram and decorative floral borders.

Provenance and Genealogical Features: The volume contains a completed family record page, handwritten in ink, documenting the marriage of J. Erickson (born 15 December 1846) and Sarah Erickson (born 6 July 1856) on 6 May 1883. The record includes transcribed verses from Hebrews 13:14 and Malachi 3:6.
