This maritime scene, executed in oils on a canvas-textured board, depicts St Mary’s Lighthouse at Whitley Bay, Tyneside. The composition features the prominent white lighthouse and a cluster of red-roofed buildings situated on a rocky promontory. In the foreground, a sandy shoreline includes a lone figure and a small rowboat, while a larger vessel with an ochre-coloured sail and several figures aboard navigates the choppy mid-ground water. The work is rendered in a traditional style with a palette of browns, blues, and earthy tones. The painting is signed in the lower left corner W. Lawson with a long flourish. It is housed in a gilt-finished wooden frame.
