A British Waterloo Extincteur fire extinguisher manufactured by Read and Campbell Limited, London. This Elswick Model, Type E.E.2, operates on the Water and Co. System and features a cylindrical copper body of riveted construction. The top of the vessel is fitted with a circular brass handle and a striking mechanism designed to be activated by a sharp blow to release an internal CO2 cartridge. The item retains its original braided textile discharge hose which terminates in a tapered brass nozzle. The front of the body is applied with multiple embossed brass instructional plates. The top plate specifies that the extinguisher is to be used in an upright position. The primary plate displays the Waterloo Extincteur branding and the Water and Co. System attribution, along with the model designation and a testing pressure of 350 lbs per square inch. Detailed operating and charging instructions are provided on the lower section of the plate, identifying the manufacturer as Read and Campbell Limited, located at 75 Victoria Street, Westminster, London. An oval brass plaque at the base identifies the year of manufacture as 1939.
