A vintage brass-cased hourglass, typically utilised as a three-minute egg timer, featuring a double-bulb glass vessel supported by three turned brass pillars. The circular top plate is etched with a central figure of Chronos (Father Time) holding a scythe, encircled by a border of astrological zodiac symbols including Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Leo. The opposing plate is decorated with an incised border of Roman numerals, including VIII, IX, X, XI, and XII. The unit stands on three small spherical brass feet. This style of timer is characteristic of decorative maritime or scientific-themed items produced in England during the mid-to-late 20th century.
