This lot comprises two decorative kitchenware items. The first is an earthenware tureen or lidded dish modelled as a hen sitting on an oval nest-form base. The exterior is decorated with hand-painted folk-art style brushwork in black and grey representing feathers, applied over a cream-coloured ground. The comb and wattles are highlighted with a red glaze. The interior of the dish and lid are finished in a plain cream glaze. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the base or interior. The second item is an oval basket featuring a woven wicker base and top rim, joined by a black-coated wire mesh frame. It is fitted with twin curved handles. The wirework is adorned with four hanging ceramic plaques in the form of chickens, each decorated with hand-painted blue and white stylized motifs.
