A complete wooden chess set comprising thirty-two hand-carved pieces in a modified Staunton pattern. The set consists of sixteen light wood pieces, likely boxwood, and sixteen dark wood pieces, likely rosewood or a similar stained hardwood. The pieces are characterised by distinctive multi-ringed turned bases, with the knights featuring detailed hand-carved manes. The set is accompanied by a square wooden chess board finished with contrasting light and dark wood veneers. Also included is a square wooden storage box featuring a decorative inlaid border on the lid and a simple metal-hinged lid mechanism. There are no visible maker’s marks, labels, or signatures on the pieces, board, or storage box.
