An Art Deco sterling silver cigarette case of rectangular form with canted corners and slim proportions. The front cover features translucent sky-blue guilloche enamel over a precision engine-turned sunburst pattern radiating from the centre, framed by an engraved border of geometric and foliate motifs. The reverse of the case is decorated with an engine-turned barley-corn pattern. The interior is finished with silver-gilt and retains its original metal spring-tensioned retainer. A small silver suspension loop is mounted to the side near the hinge. The interior of both covers is struck with a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark C&S for Cohen and Solomon, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter P corresponding to 1939.
