Buyer's Premium:

A slip-decorated earthenware jug, produced in the style of post-medieval European folk pottery, specifically resembling 14th to 16th-century Borderware. The vessel features a bulbous body that tapers to a cylindrical neck decorated with horizontal incised banding. It has a flared rim with a simple pinched spout and a prominent twisted rope-work handle. The decoration consists of green and ochre coloured slips applied in bands over a reddish-brown clay body, with incised scalloped patterns where the two slips meet. The flat, circular base is ochre in colour with irregular black staining and a small square of dark residue. The entire surface is covered in a heavy mineral encrustation and salting, consistent with prolonged burial or environmental exposure.
