A collection of British Army service and sporting awards belonging to Fusilier Anderson of the 5th Fusiliers (Royal Northumberland Fusiliers). The lot includes two World War II campaign medals: a bronze six-pointed 1939-1945 Star featuring the royal cypher of King George VI, and a cupro-nickel War Medal 1939-1945 depicting the crowned effigy of George VI. Both medals are unnamed as issued and are accompanied by their original silk ribbons, a cardboard On His Majesty’s Service (OHMS) mailing box with an Official Paid postal stamp, and an Army Council medal transmission slip.
The group further contains two bronze regimental sports medals, both housed in original blue leatherette presentation cases with silk and velvet linings bearing the maker’s mark for F. Phillips, Medallist, Aldershot. The first medal is for the 5th Fusiliers Hart Boxing Shield, 1929, awarded for the Heavy-weight category and inscribed to Fus. Anderson. The obverse depicts St. George and the Dragon below the regimental motto Quo Fata Vocant. The second medal is for the Northern Command Unit Team Athletic Championship, 1929, awarded to Javelin Winners. The obverse features a classical male figure wrestling a lion and is signed Phillips in the lower field.
