A brass miner’s safety lamp produced by the Hockley Lamp and Limelight Company of Wales. The lamp is constructed with a cylindrical polished brass body featuring a vented hood and a circular wire suspension handle. The central clear glass globe is protected by a four-bar brass cage. This piece is a commemorative or heritage item designed for use with paraffin fuel. A riveted oval brass nameplate on the hood is inscribed LAMP & LIMELIGHT COMPANY . HOCKLEY ANTHRACITE with COLLIERY NO. 3721 and SERIAL NO. 12082. The underside of the base is stamped MADE IN WALES and provides operating instructions alongside a warning to use only paraffin and guidance on wick trimming. The lamp is accompanied by an original informational brochure titled The Miner’s Lamp, which describes the item as being hand-crafted in the Welsh coal field by the sons and daughters of miners.
