This pair of ceramic Shire horse figurines is produced by Melba Ware, a trade name used by H. Wain & Sons Ltd. of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The group comprises a larger horse and a smaller companion, both modelled as heavy draft horses with gloss-glazed dark bay bodies, white facial blazes, and white feathered legs. Each figure is dressed in a detailed, removable harness made from black leather-style straps, metal chains, and brass-coloured decorative studs and medallions. The larger horse features a more elaborate show harness including blinkers. Both figurines retain their original green and gold palette-shaped foil labels on the left flank, featuring a five-pointed star and the text Melba Ware ENGLAND.
