A mid-20th-century high-frequency electrotherapy machine, commonly known as a Violet Ray device, supplied by Arthur J. Pye of Blackpool. The apparatus is housed in a mahogany case with a hinged lid, secured by nickel-plated brass latches and fitted with a leather carry handle. The interior features a black bakelite control panel equipped with three white fluted rotary knobs. The panel is inscribed with white-filled lettering for voltage selection (100-150V and 200-250V), an intensity dial marked WEAK and STRONG, and a numerical output scale graduated from 0 to 10. The base of the panel is marked EARTH FREE. The set includes a black bakelite handheld applicator wand connected via a black and yellow braided fabric power cord. It is accompanied by a collection of interchangeable electrodes, including a glass vacuum rake or comb electrode, a glass vacuum mushroom electrode, a straight glass vacuum electrode, and a cylindrical metal electrode. An ivorine-style label mounted to the interior of the lid reads Supplied by Arthur J. Pye, 3 & 5 Queen Street, Blackpool, Lancs.
