George R. Deakins (British, 1911-1982). A mid-century woodland landscape depicting a stream flowing through a rocky bed, executed in oil on board. The work is characterised by exceptionally heavy impasto, with the paint applied in thick, sculptural layers, likely using a palette knife to create a highly textured and expressive surface. The composition is signed DEAKINS in red paint to the lower right corner. The reverse of the board carries a printed studio label for George R. Deakins at Chapel House Studio, 2 West Street, Dunster, Somerset, noting his membership in the United Society of Artists. The painting is presented in a period mid-century frame featuring a textured cream finish and a gilt-painted inner slip.
