A pair of studio ceramic items produced by Celtic Pottery, Newlyn, Cornwall, comprising a tall cylindrical vase and an elongated oval tray. Both pieces are decorated in the firm’s Phoenix pattern, featuring bold, hand-painted stylized mythological creatures in black against a mottled background of ochre, white, and blue flecks. The creatures, including a phoenix on the vase and a dragon-like beast on the tray, are detailed with incised sgraffito outlines. The rims are finished with a dark band. One piece retains the original rectangular gold foil label featuring a graphic of a standing figure with outstretched arms above the text celtic pottery NEWLYN CORNWALL.
