This lot comprises two antique Bibles of varying formats and periods. The primary volume is a large-format edition of The Pictorial National Comprehensive Family Bible, edited by the Reverend John Eadie, D.D., LL.D. It features the commentaries of Scott and Henry along with many thousand critical and explanatory notes. Published in Glasgow and London by W. R. M’Phun & Son, the title page is dated M.DCCC.LXVII (1867). The volume is bound in heavily embossed black leather with decorative gilt-metal protective edges and two functional hinged metal clasps. The pages feature all edges gilt, and the binding includes a red woven fabric bookmark with an embroidered gold cross and tassel. The interior is profusely illustrated with chromolithograph maps and plates, including a scene of the Plain of Jericho and maps of the Journeys of the Children of Israel.
The second volume is an older, smaller quarto-sized edition of the Holy Bible in the King James Version, bound in worn brown leather. This distressed volume contains a loose printed flyer for the Cannon Street Congregational Church Sunday Schools Anniversary Services held on Sunday, 25 February 1906, identifying the preacher as the Reverend David Walters of Leeds. A handwritten genealogical inscription on an internal page records that Mary Morton was born on 19 March 1915. This volume includes the standard Epistle Dedicatory to King James.
