A Victorian-period writing slope constructed from rosewood with brass corner straps and bindings. The lid is inset with a brass shield-shaped vacant cartouche, complemented by a matching brass escutcheon to the front. The interior features a bifold writing surface lined with black leather, embellished with gold-tooled Greek key borders and fleur-de-lis motifs. Both halves of the writing surface lift to reveal secondary storage compartments beneath. The upper fitted section contains various compartments, two square glass inkwells with metal covers, two pen holders, and an assortment of dip pen nibs. A small metal key is included with the lot.
