An open-face pocket watch manufactured by the American Waltham Watch Company of Waltham, Massachusetts. The manual wind movement features 15 jewels and decorative damaskeening on the plates. It is marked A.W.W.Co., WALTHAM, MASS., 15 Jewels, and bears the movement serial number 20790248, which dates the production to approximately 1916. The watch is housed in a gold-filled case produced by the Wadsworth Watch Case Co. under the Referee brand name, with an internal case serial number of 4011148. The interior of the case back shows several hand-scratched service marks, including 1794/49X and 12078/W/C. The white porcelain or enamel dial features stylized black Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, and a subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position. The dial is signed WALTHAM and fitted with black steel spade hands.
