A Victorian sterling silver sugar sifter spoon by the makers Hilliard and Thomason. The circular bowl is intricately hand-pierced with a pattern of foliate scrolls and a central floral motif. The handle features a fluted and beaded stem which terminates in a scrolled and beaded end. The reverse of the stem bears a complete set of British hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay Office. These marks include the Sovereign’s head profile of Queen Victoria (duty mark), a capital letter K in a clipped square shield (date letter for 1859), the lion passant (sterling silver standard mark), the anchor (Birmingham assay mark), and the maker’s mark H and T for Hilliard and Thomason.
