A sterling silver sugar sifter spoon, also referred to as a berry or muffin spoon, manufactured by the silversmiths George Nathan and Ridley Hayes. The item features a circular bowl with deep scalloped shell fluting and ornate foliate piercings. The stem is formed as a spiral barley-twist, culminating in a decorative openwork terminal with scroll motifs. The reverse of the bowl is struck with a full set of British hallmarks. The maker mark N and H in a shaped shield is for Nathan and Hayes. The Birmingham assay office is represented by an anchor, the lion passant confirms the material as sterling silver, and the lowercase gothic letter u indicates the date of manufacture as 1894.
