A mid-20th-century gouache or bodycolour painting by F. Gallo, executed in a Neo-classical style intended to replicate ancient Roman fresco work from Pompeii. The central subject features a winged putto, or cherub, playing a lyre while draped in a flowing pink sash and positioned beside a vertical floral garland. The composition is set against an opaque black ground. The lower margin of the black panel is inscribed in white pigment POMPEI – GENIO DELLA MUSICA at the lower left, and signed F. Gallo above the date 1969 at the lower right. The artwork is inset within a large cream-coloured mount decorated with a hand-drawn red and black ruled border. The piece is housed in a black-finished wooden frame featuring a gilded, beaded inner slip.
