This mid-Victorian Bible is an English Imperial Quarto format, printed at the Oxford University Press for the British and Foreign Bible Society. The full title page is transcribed as follows: THE HOLY BIBLE, CONTAINING THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS: TRANSLATED OUT OF THE ORIGINAL TONGUES: AND WITH THE FORMER TRANSLATIONS DILIGENTLY COMPARED AND REVISED, BY HIS MAJESTY’S SPECIAL COMMAND. APPOINTED TO BE READ IN CHURCHES. OXFORD: PRINTED AT THE UNIVERSITY PRESS, FOR THE BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY, INSTITUTED IN LONDON IN THE YEAR 1804. The volume is bound in black leather over thick boards, featuring blind-stamped decorative borders in a Greek key motif. It contains extensive manuscript genealogical records for the Nance family of Illogan, Cornwall, recorded on the flyleaves and endpapers. These handwritten entries document marriages, births, and deaths from 1802 through to 1881, notably including the marriage of James Nance and Ann Holman at Illogan Church on 26 February 1826, and the records of subsequent generations with names such as Rosina, Louisa, Eliza, William, and others. The text includes marginal references and the Oxford University Press emblem on the title page.
