A Victorian family Bible containing the Old and New Testaments together with a devotional and practical commentary by the Reverend Robert Jamieson and the Reverend E.H. Bickersteth. The volume was published in London and New York by James S. Virtue. It is bound in full black leather with gilt-tooled borders and a central diamond-shaped motif on both boards. The spine features five raised bands forming six compartments, with gilt-decorated flourishes and gold-stamped lettering. The text block is finished with gilt edges on all sides. The work is illustrated with a series of steel-engraved plates, including a frontispiece depicting Moses in the Bulrushes and biblical scenes such as Rebekah at the Well after W. Hilton, R.A. The volume includes a secondary title page for the Practical and Explanatory Commentary on the Old Testament by Robert Jamieson, D.D.
