An Edwardian sterling silver rectangular snuff or trinket box by the silversmiths Horton and Allday. The hinged lid is decorated with an engine-turned wavy linear pattern surrounding a central circular cartouche. The sides and base are finished with a plain polished surface. The interior retains traces of original gilding. The lid is stamped with the British Registered Design number RD 362677. Full hallmarks are struck to the interior base and lid, including the maker’s mark H&A for Horton and Allday, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter e for 1904.
