This lot comprises two 19th-century wooden boxes of varying design. The upper box is a campaign-style mahogany writing slope or travelling chest featuring brass-bound corners and edges. It is fitted with a decorative foliate brass escutcheon to the front and a side-mounted drawer secured by hand-cut dovetail joinery and a flush brass pull handle. The interior reveals a mahogany-lined compartment with secondary lids and a hinged top. The lower box, constructed from a dark hardwood, is decorated with scrolling foliate inlay to the borders and features a central brass star-shaped escutcheon. No maker’s marks or signatures are discernibly visible on either piece.
