This 19th-century French medical device is a genuine Dr Eguisier patent irrigator, a spring-loaded pump designed for internal medical cleansing. The instrument consists of a cylindrical copper reservoir with a flared base and a tapered top housing a brass mechanical winding mechanism. The top features a T-shaped brass winding handle connected to a central shaft and gear assembly intended to compress an internal spring. An applied oval metal plaque is fixed to the body of the reservoir and features the following transcribed text: SEUL VERITABLE IRRIGATEUR DU Dr EGUISIER T 3 M. The plaque also incorporates two circular medallions; the left is marked MEDAILLE 1849 and the right EXPOSITION 1855, with the initials J. L. contained within a small oval at the bottom. A brass nozzle with a stopcock and threaded end is located near the base for the attachment of tubing. The exterior of the copper vessel retains significant remnants of its original dark brown japanned or lacquered finish.
