A large studio pottery teapot constructed from wheel thrown stoneware. The globose body features prominent horizontal ribbing and is finished in a dark purplish brown tenmoku style glaze. A thick contrasting turquoise green glaze has been applied over the upper portion in a poured drip pattern exhibiting a fine crackle or crazing effect with occasional golden brown flecks. The vessel is fitted with two vertical lug handles on the shoulders which hold a woven cane or vine swing handle. It features a short flared spout and a matching inset lid with a flared knob handle. The unglazed base reveals a warm brown clay body with circular marks from kiln wadding and bears an incised potter’s mark. The mark consists of a stylized S connected to a V with a small hook.
