An early 20th-century electric miner’s safety lamp, identified by design consensus as a Patterson Type HCP. The lamp is constructed with a heavy brass base and four brass support pillars enclosing a cylindrical glass protector. It features a distinctive upper shield made of blackened corrugated metal, designed as a radiator for heat dissipation. The unit is fitted with a stout iron carrying handle and a suspension ring. The brass base flange is stamped with the number 2106, and the upper rim of the base is marked PATENT 25399. The glass cylinder displays acid-etched markings including the number 65 and part of the word BRITISH. The underside of the base features a recessed circular plate with a central electrical contact point.
