This pair of silver-plated serving vessels was manufactured by Walker & Hall of Sheffield. The first item is a large tea urn or samovar of neoclassical ovoid form featuring twin recurved scroll handles and a domed, removable lid topped with a finial containing a white heat insulator. The body is fitted with a spigot tap featuring a white-handled lever. The urn is supported by a waisted stem on a square pedestal base which rests on four leaf-capped bracket feet. The second item is a matching spirit kettle with a squat-ovoid body and a fixed overhead handle featuring a white heat-insulating grip. The kettle sits upon a three-legged stand with claw feet which houses a central, removable spirit burner. The base of the spirit kettle bears several stamped marks: a pennant-style flag containing the letters W & H; the number 51466 followed by a letter A inside a circle; the text WALKER & HALL SHEFFIELD arranged in a cartouche; and a stamp reading WARRANTED HARD SOLDERED. Smaller marks including a clover symbol and the digit 9 are also visible, along with a handwritten inventory code A26. The construction is silver-plate over a base metal, confirmed by the maker’s marks and the absence of British sterling silver hallmarks.
