An earthenware meat platter manufactured by Hill & Co. at the Palissy Pottery, Longton, Staffordshire, in the Palissy pattern. The large oval form is designed with a moulded tree-and-well drainage system, featuring shallow radiating channels that lead to a circular juice well at one end. The decoration consists of a polychrome transfer-printed border in a Victorian neo-classical style, with a repeating pattern of stylised green acanthus leaves set within a geometric framework of brown and ochre-yellow. The outer rim is detailed with a delicate black dotted border. The reverse of the platter displays a printed factory mark in dark brown, featuring an ornate monogram of the characters H, &, and C above the name PALISSY in uppercase serif letters.
