A portable single-draw refracting telescope by the nautical instrument makers Henry Hughes & Son Ltd, London. The instrument is constructed from brass, featuring a main barrel decorated with an engine-turned cross-hatched finish to provide an enhanced grip. The internal draw tube is polished brass and is engraved with the maker’s mark: H. HUGHES & SON / LONDON E. C. 3. The address in the E.C.3 district indicates a manufacture date post-1917. The instrument is fitted with an objective lens and an eyepiece lens. A modern paper identification label is adhered to the barrel, reading in part Brass telescope.
