A First World War campaign medal pair awarded to a soldier of the British Army. The lot comprises a British War Medal 1914-1920 and a Victory Medal 1914-1919. The British War Medal is struck in silver, featuring the bareheaded effigy of King George V facing left on the obverse and St George on horseback trampling the Prussian eagle shield and a skull on the reverse. The Victory Medal is struck in bronze and depicts the winged figure of Victory on the obverse, with the reverse bearing the inscription THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919 within a laurel wreath. Both medals are officially impressed on the rim to 25397 PTE J. F. TARKEN YORK. R. The recipient served with the Yorkshire Regiment (The Green Howards).
