A First World War campaign medal pair comprising the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, both officially named to a single recipient. The British War Medal 1914-1920 is struck in silver and features the coinage-style bust of King George V facing left on the obverse, with the legend GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN : REX ET IND : IMP :. The reverse depicts St. George on horseback, armed with a short sword and trampling the Prussian eagle shield and emblems of death, bearing the dates 1914 and 1918. The rim is impressed PTE. A. STOREY. NORTH’N R. The Victory Medal 1914-1919 is struck in bronze and features a full-length winged figure of Victory on the obverse. The reverse bears the inscription THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919 within a laurel wreath. The naming on the rim of the Victory medal is present but significantly obscured. Both medals are associated with the service of Private A. Storey of the Northamptonshire Regiment.
