A mid-20th-century Royal Navy uniform grouping belonging to a specialist rating. The lot includes a navy blue wool double-breasted reefer jacket and matching trousers. The jacket is fitted with brass buttons featuring the King’s Crown over a fouled anchor. The right sleeve displays a specialist trade badge embroidered in gold wire, depicting an open book bisected by a vertical lightning bolt with the letter E, identifying the wearer as a member of the Electrical branch. An interior tailor’s label for Greenburgh Bros Ltd denotes branches in Devonport, Portsmouth, Chatham, and Malta. The grouping includes two white-topped peaked caps, one retaining a Petty Officer’s cap badge with a red embroidered anchor within a laurel wreath under a crown. Accompanying the uniform is a wooden ship’s plaque for HMS Nuthatch, the commissioned name for Royal Naval Air Station Anthorn. The plaque features a cast metal or resin badge with a nuthatch bird in flight within a rope border, topped by a naval crown and bearing a brass scroll inscribed H.M.S. NUTHATCH. Also included is a 1951 edition of the Naval Ratings Handbook, designated B.R. 1938, in a blue cloth-bound hardback cover with gold lettering.
