A British military badge for the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (formerly the 5th Regiment of Foot), designed for use as a pouch badge or shoulder belt plate fitting. The piece is constructed from cast brass with a gilt finish and features the regimental flaming grenade motif. The central circular body is bordered by a garter embossed with the regimental motto QUO FATA VOCANT (Whither the Fates Call). At the centre of the garter is a relief depiction of St George and the Dragon on a torse ground. The reverse of the badge is fitted with a wide, horizontal brass slider or tongue for attachment to leather equipment. There are no visible maker’s marks, and the back displays the granular texture associated with the casting process.
