A mixed collection of ephemera comprising two distinct series of postcards and art cards. The first group consists of a series of colour-printed cards depicting historic British steam locomotives from various regional railway companies. Specific subjects identified include the Great Western Railway Castle Class No. 4073 Caerphilly Castle, London and South Western Railway Class T9 No. 302, Highland Railway 4-4-0 Locomotive and Tender No. 103, London and North Eastern Railway Class A1 No. 4472 Flying Scotsman, Talyllyn Railway Saddle Tank Engine No. 1 Talyllyn, Midland Railway 2-2-2 Express Locomotive No. 22, London, Midland and Scottish Railway Jubilee Class No. 5563 Victoria, Southern Railway West Country Class No. 21C110 Blackmore Vale, and the Ffestiniog Railway Fairlie Articulated Engine Earl of Merioneth. These cards are printed on cream-coloured stock with identifying captions below each illustration.
The second group is a varied collection of Japanese art postcards featuring a range of subjects including monochromatic ink-and-wash style landscapes, village scenes, botanical studies of palm trees, and colour-printed traditional figures. Many of these cards feature vertical columns of Japanese characters indicating titles and artist attributions. One card bears a handwritten date of 1938-12. The collection represents various printing techniques consistent with early to mid-20th century Japanese ephemera.
