An earthenware two-handled vase of classic amphora form, produced as part of the Tower Ware range by Rye Pottery in Sussex. The vessel features a bulbous body tapering to a small, flared foot, topped with a wide neck and a rounded out-turned rim. Two loop handles connect the neck to the shoulder. The exterior and inner rim are coated in a dark charcoal metallic lustre glaze that displays an iridescent oil-slick effect, with flashes of green, purple, and blue appearing under varied light. The underside of the base is finished in black paint and bears a partial circular paper label with gold-tone printing, showing the text ER WARE and SUSSEX.
