A pair of Second World War period German Army (Wehrmacht) shoulder boards for a Leutnant (Second Lieutenant) serving in the Truppensonderdienst (Special Troop Service). Each board is constructed from matte silver-toned braided cord arranged in a triple-strand U-pattern, mounted on a cornflower blue wool felt backing, the branch colour associated with supply and administrative officers. Centrally mounted on each board is a stamped gold-coloured metal caduceus insignia, a winged staff entwined by two serpents. These are sew-in type boards, typically attached directly to the shoulder seam of a service tunic.
