A VJ-Day Journal 50th Anniversary special souvenir issue, published in 1995. This multi-page paper publication reproduces the front page of a newspaper dated “Wednesday, August 15, 1945,” with prominent headlines announcing “JAPAN SURRENDERS, ” “NAGASAKI ATOM BOMB – THE FIRST PICTURE, ” and “Peace will be signed on September 2.” It features black and white photographic illustrations, including a mushroom cloud and an image of Winston Churchill. Internal articles detail events surrounding the end of World War II, such as “SHOCK WAVES AT THE DEFEAT OF CHURCHILL” and “SPLITTING THE ATOM PACT.” Tucked within the pages is a separate small, black and white photograph depicting Winston Churchill. The reverse of the photograph bears handwritten notes in blue ink, which read: “Arrival of Winston Churchill at Gardonne 19409,” “Churchill’s arrival, ” and “Two bobbies who paraded daily outside Churchill’s Hotel – this is the road to the Villa.”
