A single ceramic studio vase attributed to Poole Pottery, executed in the distinctive Galaxy pattern. The vase features a rounded, gourd-like body tapering to a narrow neck. The surface is finished with a heavy luster glaze, exhibiting a deep, iridescent ground of blue, black, and purple. This ground is heavily accented by irregular, raised patches of metallic coppery red and orange, characteristic of a crystalline or reduction-fired finish often referred to as ‘lava’ or ‘volcano’ glaze. The base is finished with a dark glaze surrounding an unglazed buff ceramic rim. Markings include the edition number “26/30” written in white paint, a stylized symbol resembling a gamma or ‘Y’ also in white paint, and an obscured incised mark beneath the glaze. A blue oval sticker remains affixed to the body, identifying the manufacturer as “Poole Pottery” and confirming it was “Hand painted in Poole, Dorset.”
