An Edwardian sterling silver baby’s rattle, whistle, and teething toy by the prolific Birmingham silversmiths Levi & Salaman. The silver body features a decorative repoussé pattern of five-pointed stars and is fitted with two hanging globular bells with embossed foliate decoration. The piece is topped with a functional whistle and is mounted on a carved and polished mother-of-pearl handle. The silver collar bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker’s mark L&S for Levi & Salaman, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant indicating .925 sterling silver, and the date letter p for 1914.
