Monday 11th May - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Comics Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables
A collection of six 20th-century English decorative ceramic pieces, primarily from Staffordshire manufacturers. The group includes a large Beswick Sairey Gamp character jug, featuring hand-painted underglaze decoration and an incised number 571 to the base with a black printed Beswick Ware mark. Also included are two small Royal Doulton character jugs: Rip Van Winkle (D 6463, dated 1954) and Bacchus (D 6505, dated 1958), both bearing the lion and crown factory marks. A large glazed earthenware character jug depicts Sir Winston Churchill in a Royal Navy officer’s peaked cap with a cigar; this piece is unmarked but consistent with mid-20th-century Staffordshire production, such as Shorter and Son. The lot further comprises a Beswick Hamlet relief-moulded mug, incised 1147 and inscribed TO BE OR NOT TO BE, and a Royal Doulton Golfing series ware mug with transfer-printed and hand-coloured decoration, incised 1048.
