This is a hand-knotted wool pile rug featuring a traditional Anatolian design attributed to the Yahyali region of Turkey. The composition centres on a large, stepped hexagonal medallion in yellow-ochre, which is decorated with a blue and red cruciform floral motif. This central element is set within a vibrant red diamond-shaped field containing stylized floral sprays and geometric details. The dark indigo-blue spandrels are ornamented with various tribal and geometric motifs, including simplified tree-of-life forms and stars. The rug is framed by a wide orange-ground main border with repeating hexagonal shield motifs, flanked by multiple narrow guard borders featuring sawtooth and vine patterns. The foundation is visible in the cotton fringes.
