A pair of circular George V sterling silver-mounted wine coasters, manufactured by the renowned silversmiths Mappin & Webb Ltd. Each coaster is designed in the traditional Neo-Classical style, featuring a gallery of pierced vertical slats above a turned lower rim. The coasters are constructed with turned mahogany bases, each inset with a central circular sterling silver boss. The undersides are finished with green felt linings to protect table surfaces. The central bosses bear a full set of British hallmarks as follows: the maker mark MN&WS for Mappin & Webb Ltd, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant indicating .925 sterling silver, and the date letter T for the year 1918.
