Thomas Hoult (British, active circa 1939), Durham Cathedral and Prebends Bridge. This watercolour on paper is rendered in a traditional topographical style, depicting the cathedral towers rising above the stone arches of Prebends Bridge from the River Wear. The work is signed T. HOULT in block capitals at the lower left and titled DURHAM at the lower right. The reverse of the frame features an extensive typed label detailing the provenance of the piece, identifying the artist as a photographic assistant and amateur painter from North Shields and dating the work to circa 1939. The verso also bears a framer stamp for Donald Bull of Morecambe. The painting is presented in a dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip and a cream-coloured mount.
