An early 20th-century mechanical perpetual advertising desk calendar produced by Barringer, Wallis & Manners Ltd of Mansfield, England. The item is fashioned from lithographed and embossed tinplate with a curved upper edge. The face displays the company name and location in embossed lettering, accompanied by two royal coats of arms and the text By Appointment. Functional text on the face includes Decorated Tin Boxes and Metal Advertising Tablets & Novelties. The numerical date is viewed through two apertures and is advanced using a small lever on the right-hand side. A collection of translucent celluloid month inserts is provided, which fit into a horizontal slot at the base. Visible months within the set include January, March, May, August, October, and November. Barringer, Wallis & Manners were renowned manufacturers of decorative tins before becoming part of the Metal Box Company.
