An Edwardian sterling silver-handled button hook by the maker Charles Arthur Nightingale. The handle is constructed from sterling silver and features a tapered, multi-faceted design with longitudinal fluting and diagonal cross-banded decorative motifs. The shaft and terminal hook are made of steel, circular in section and tapering towards the curved hook end. The silver handle bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker’s mark CAN for Charles Arthur Nightingale, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the lowercase date letter f for the year 1905.
