A large English country pottery dairy bowl or pancheon, constructed from a coarse reddish-brown earthenware clay body. The vessel is wheel-thrown, with visible concentric throwing rings to the interior. The form is deep and conical with a flat base and a thick, slightly flared rim. It features two small, applied horizontal lug handles located just below the rim. The piece displays a bi-colour glaze application; the interior is finished with a pale, off-white to light grey glaze, while the rim and upper exterior are coated in a thick, glossy, dark brown iron-rich or manganese glaze. This exterior glaze stops short of the base, leaving the lower portion of the body and the underside unglazed. No maker’s marks, factory stamps, or signatures are visible on the piece.
